Why affordable matters to us.
We priced our work to be genuinely accessible, not just cheaper-sounding marketing copy. Standard trade paint and labour are included in every quoted price, with no inflated call-out fees or hidden extras. If a job comes in more than the benchmark guide suggests, we tell you why before we start, not after.
Family run.
Canterbury Painter is a small, family-run decorating business focused entirely on domestic work. No subcontracted crews you've never met - the person who visits to quote the job is the person doing the work.
A city built to work differently.
Canterbury packs a Cathedral precinct, a medieval street plan still enclosed by the old city walls, and streets of listed timber-framed housing into a genuinely small area - then surrounds it with Georgian and Victorian terraces and, further out, ordinary modern estates. Lime plaster needs to breathe, original sash windows need the right primer to avoid the sashes sticking, and a listed timber frame needs prep matched to what's underneath rather than a generic once-over. We prepare and paint accordingly rather than treating every wall the same.
How we quote.
Photos of the room over WhatsApp or email are usually enough for a firm price against our benchmark guide. On larger jobs, or anything inside the walls where access is tight, we come out for a look before quoting. Quotes are fixed price - if we find something unexpected once we start (damp behind old wallpaper, movement cracks that need proper filling), we flag it, price it separately, and agree it with you before continuing.
