Why period properties need different treatment.
Lime-plastered walls need breathable, vapour-permeable coatings, not a modern sealed emulsion that traps damp behind the surface. Original sash windows need the right primer and paint system, or the sashes stick shut within a season. We assess the building before we assess the paint colour.
Sash windows.
Careful preparation and painting that keeps the sashes moving freely, using systems suited to old, often slightly imperfect original joinery rather than treating it like a modern uPVC frame - common on the Georgian terraces around Dane John and St Dunstan's.
Historic timber and lime plaster.
Preparation matched to the actual substrate underneath - not every old wall inside Canterbury's city walls is built the same way underneath the surface, and treating them all identically is how damp problems get sealed in rather than solved. Timber-framed buildings around Buttermarket and Palace Street get particular care around exposed beams and infill panels.
Pricing.
Period property work is priced individually after we've seen the actual building - send photos and we'll tell you honestly whether it fits our benchmark room prices or needs a proper site visit first.
